Hello friends!

Before we jump into the real fun, I wanted to provide a more detailed breakdown of the goals of this blog!
As explained in the About Me section of the website, the blog is for fun and serves as a way for me to keep track of my experiments with making Great British Bake Off bakes. I've put a lot of consideration into how I wanted to approach the bakes, as well as how I wanted to format posts. I have found GBBO blogs where the authors tried to do all three challenges for each episode per post. That seemed overwhelming and not fun.

Instead, I've decided to pick a bake for each post, and in the content of the post let you know what season and episode the bake can be found. I've done this for two reasons:
  1. There are some bakes I'm more excited about than others.
  2. Over the course of multiple seasons, there are repeat bakes. They're not always the exact same format, but they're close enough that I have zero interest in doing them twice just for aesthetic purposes or "blog purity".

Each post will contain the following elements:
  • The name of the bake.
  • The season(s)/episode(s) it appeared in.
  • The type of challenge(s) that it featured in.
    • I will use the full recipe for the technical bakes - generally I will search for one of the host's recipes.
    • I'll select a particular contestant's flavor combination for signature and showstopper bakes.
    • I will not be doing showstopper bakes with any frequency.
      • Showstoppers are generally beyond my skill level and I'm not hugely interested in doing them.
      • That said, there are some showstopper challenges that I want to try because they're more technical than artistic - or because I've had a solid and workable idea on how to complete them.
  • The recipe I am using.
  • A breakdown of my experience completing the bake, as well as any tips or recommendations on how to make the bake successfully. I will also document any bake fails or ways I could have improved the bake as a home baker.
  • Pictures and maybe some video. These will be of questionable quality since I'm just using my phone, but I hope they'll be useful for you!

I'm sure that this will evolve as the blog progresses, but I wanted to provide some level of expectation on how the blog will be formulated each post. I have had friends of varying skill levels show interest - and hope for different things - from this blog, so I am trying to incorporate a little bit for everyone...or at least as much as I can manage.

See you with the first true post!
